Workshop Scholarship For Advanced Primate Training and Enrichment

April 12 – 16, 2010

The Rodger James Memorial Scholarship

A Scholarship in Honor of Rodger James

Funded by Priority One Services, Inc.

In September of 2000, Rodger James, an employee of Priority One Services, Inc., attended the Primate Training and Enrichment Workshop (PTEW) in Bastrop , TX . Shortly after returning home from PTEW, Rodger unexpectedly passed away. To honor the memory of Rodger, Priority One Services, Inc. is offering a scholarship to attend PTEW2 (Advanced PTEW) to one extraordinary recipient. There are no specific requirements for the scholarship, but the recipient must demonstrate the highest level of commitment to the care and well-being of captive primates, the level of commitment displayed by Rodger.

To apply for the scholarship, please submit, preferably via email, a completed PTEW2 registration form and a one-page essay (single spaced, 1 inch margins, 11 point type) describing how your attendance at PTEW2 will enhance the lives of the primates in your care. Please be as specific as possible. The essay must be received by Steve Schapiro by March 1, 2010; email to: sschapir@mdanderson.org

Priority will be given to individuals that would not be able to attend the workshop in the absence of the Rodger James Memorial Scholarship. We will not attempt to assess an individual’s need for the scholarship, but we request that you not apply for the scholarship if your company, lab, or zoo will pay for your enrollment in the PTEW2.

The Rodger James Scholarship recipient will receive complimentary enrollment in PTEW2 while sharing a room with another participant. In extraordinary circumstances, the scholarship recipient may request a single room. The scholarship recipient will be responsible for their own travel expenses to the Salt Lake City area.

Thank you and good luck. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
